Hank Knitwear started with just me, Penelope, and a dream. In the early days, I made every piece by hand, either on my needles or using my flatbed knitting machine. Each knit took hours, and every stitch was a labour of love.
As demand grew, I realised I couldn’t keep up on my own. Outsourcing was a big step, and I worried about losing the ethos that had inspired me to start Hank in the first place. But I knew I wanted to grow without compromising quality, care, or the heart behind each piece.
That’s when I found my friends in Peru - talented female artisans who carry generations of knitting knowledge in their hands. Working alongside them has been one of the most rewarding parts of building Hank. Together, we’ve created something bigger than I ever imagined: a community rooted in trust, respect, and shared passion.
Eight years later, Hank Knitwear has grown into an international leader in premium knitwear. And yet, at our core, nothing has changed. Every piece is still made slowly, sustainably, and with heirloom quality in mind. Every knit still tells a story, from my hands in Australia to the hands of the women who bring them to life in Peru.
When you wear Hank, you’re not just wearing a knit, you’re supporting women, preserving traditional craft, and choosing pieces made to be treasured and passed down through generations. From a one-woman dream to a global community of makers, Hank is still about care, heart, and heritage.
